The Wizard Escapes...For Now

 

The party emerges from the tunnel into a large room that provides access to the harbour. The cool breeze and smell of the sea is a welcome relief to the party. The relief is short lived. A fireball engulfs the party and a party of Drow attack. 

The adventurers use their weapons and spells to hack down the Drow and get at the wizard. Kallista tries to send some spells the wizards way but the wizard is ready and dispels them. With the help of a Drow underling the wizard manages to get in a rowboat and begins to pull away from the shore. Having dispatched all of the Drow on the beach the adventurers switch to the bows to bring down the Drow who are trying to escape in their rowboats. 

Kallista sends a fireball at one of the Drow boats and the occupants are immolated. Their crisp smoking carcasses sink into the water and folllow their rowboat to the bottom. Nidal and Kallista jump in a rowboat and try to catch up to the wizard. Just as the Nidal takes aim at the wizard, he and the boat he is in disappears. Nidal throws her bow down in frustration. Nibbidard tells Nidal to use the gem of seeing. Fumbling through her pouches she finds the gem and looks through it. She catches a glimpse of the wizard and his rowboat sliding behind a row of ships in the harbour. She also notices that among the many masts in the harbour there appears to be more mast in the harbour when she uses the gem of seeing. Nidal turns the tell the party what she has seen.

On shore, the shambling mound rushes out of the tunnel and advances on the party.

 While the adventurers have been leveling up and recuperating in the city of Statsberg, they have continued to try and track down Nidal's nemesis Nerak. Rumours have reached them that Nerak has been spotted in the Fishgate area of the city. So the adventurers decided to have some dinner at a local tavern and see if they find out more.  They have dinner at the Boar and Hunter tavern and find out from their server that Nerak has indeed been spotted in the area. However, the server can provide no other information. The party decided to visit the Temple of the Light which is across the road from the Boar and Hunter.  Temple is newly constructed and contains the tomb of St. Cecilia. A large congregation is present and Sister Sarah is conducting the service. The adventurers are surprised to find that the sarcophagus of St. Cecilia glows with its own light. The Staff of the Woodlands

  The party has returned to the ship and and is trying to decide how to retrieve the Grim Reaper's treasure from the bottom of the harbour.  A hooded figure stands on the dock and calls to the party. He boards the ship and introduces himself as Aldin an elf of the Realm of the Wilf Woods. He tells the party about orcs attacking the woods and destroying all goodness in the forest. The situation is desperate. Aldin lets the party know that they have a treasure item that could help the forest dwellers in their fight against the orcs - The Staff of the Woodlands.  Aldin asks the party to leave immediately and take the Staff of the Woodlands over the Fang  Mountains to the Wild Woods. Aldin is sure that once the staff is delivered to the Wild Woods the orcs will be defeated.  Aldin tells the best route to the woods is not along the river, but overland by way of Littleton and Stone Keep.  The party are reluctant to leave on this errand. The Caravan Attack

 After a filling breakfast, the party saddles up and gets back on the road to the Wild Wood. The King's Road winds its way through stretches of fields and farms. The weather is pleasant and there a no signs of orcs or other dangers.  Adrahil notices some smoke rising over the next hill. The party immediately prepares for battle. Adrahil and Nodrog sneak forward and crawl up the hill. Adrahil and Nodrog see that the smoke is coming from the camp fire of a small caravan. They move back to the party to let them know what they have seen.  The party decides to approach the caravan. The caravan is understandable concerned when the y see the party of grizzled adventurers approaching. However, they eventually invite the party to share their fire and food.  Just as they are sitting down, there is a commotion behind some of the wagons.
